Dutch Apple Cake

Ingredients

Dough ingredients

  • 250 g
    all-purpose flour
  • 3 tsp.
    baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp.
    salt
  • 50 g
    sugar
  • 4 tbsp.
    vegetable shortening
  • 60 g
    apple sauce
  • 80 ml
    almond milk

Filling ingredients

  • 3-4
    apples

Topping ingredients

  • 2 tbsp.
    sugar
  • 1 tsp.
    cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees.
  2. Grease a 20 x 20 cm baking tin.
  3. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together in a bowl. Add the shortening, applesauce and almond milk. Mix until all ingredients have combined to form a dough.
  4. Spread the mixture into the prepared tin.
  5. Peel, core and slice the apples into wedges.
  6. Push them deep into the dough with the skin side up.
  7. Mix the sugar with the cinnamon and sprinkle on top.
  8. Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Let cool slightly before serving.
