ProVeg launches Africa Accelerator

The ProVeg Grants Programme has launched the ProVeg Africa Accelerator, the first project that aims to help accelerate the plant-based movement across the continent. The ProVeg Africa Accelerator equips organisations with tools and skills to help build a food system that is pro-human, pro-animals, and pro-environment.

Accelerating the food justice movement in Africa

The Africa Accelerator aims to expand the food justice movement across Africa by equipping leaders with the skills needed to become more effective advocates for animals, the environment, and public health. Members will learn about the impacts of industrial farms and meat-based diets. Moreover, the importance of plant-based advocacy and meat-reduction campaigns in creating a fairer and healthier food system will be stressed. In addition, participants will learn how to develop effective plant-based and meat reduction campaign strategies, as well as basic nonprofit management skills. At the end of the training, members will have developed a campaign strategy plan and will be prepared to launch new campaigns.

Strategic approach

The ProVeg Grants Programme recognizes that, as a US and Europe-based program, we cannot truly understand the needs of organisations that are based on the African continent. Therefore, the programme used a participator model co-design approach to develop the ProVeg Africa Accelerator. As such, we have invited two of our most impactful grant recipients, Augustine Nii Addo from Ghana and Aurelia Adhiambo from Kenya, to lead the Accelerator. Additionally, we have curated an advisory committee of current impactful grantees from several African countries, to help ensure that the accelerator is equitable and effective within the region.

Join the ProVeg Africa Accelerator

The ProVeg Africa Accelerator will launch in mid-2021. The programme will be completed over the course of four months. It includes regular webinars, strategy discussions, and developing a campaign strategy.
