What we achieved with your support in 2021

<![CDATA[

2021 was a challenging and unusual year for the planet and for ProVeg. Nonetheless, we managed to overcome the many obstacles and made incredible progress – thanks to your support! The ProVeg family is growing and so is our reach around the world. In this way, we are getting closer to achieving our goal of reducing the global consumption of animals by 50% by 2040. Here’s some of what we achieved together in 2021.

Raising awareness in the midst of an ongoing global pandemic

2021 taught us one thing for sure: how to host online events and webinars – although we were still happy to organise and attend a few in-person and hybrid events as the world started to open up. From the New Food Conference in Cologne to the New Cuisine: Sustainable Foodservice and Culinary Summit in China, and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, we were happy to finally meet people in person again (even if it meant that we had to take off those sweatpants…).

We were delighted with the progress of our school programmes across the UK, Poland, and Germany, especially when students were finally allowed to go back to school! In 2021 alone, we made sure that nearly 500,000 students could eat healthy, planet-friendly, and affordable school meals. We also worked with major players in the food industry, including Lidl, Burger King, and Vivera, to develop and promote healthy, compassionate, and sustainable plant-based options.

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!

2021 started with a bang when we managed to convince the European Union to reject ‘plant-based dairy censorship’. Along with 60 major supporters and partner NGOs, we would not have won this without you! We also kicked off our Diet Change Not Climate Change campaign with support from companies and NGOs around the world, including a petition that addressed world leaders to formally recognise the climate-warming impact of industrialised animal agriculture at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26)

The ‘This Makes No Sense’ Crowdvertising campaign, in which we drew attention to the problematic way in which the EU spends its promotional budget for agricultural products, was another major project. Meanwhile, the ProVeg Grants Programme continues to support and equip non-profit organisations globally. One of our grantees, the Czech Vegan Society, even became ProVeg Czechia in 2021! And did we mention that we also co-founded the Plant-based Food Alliance UK? You could sum up our approach in 2021 with the folk idiom, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’

There is so much more we could mention. For a complete review of ProVeg’s activities in 2021, please take a look at our Annual Review for the year.

Off to 2022

None of this would have been possible without your ongoing support. Our successes are really your successes – so thank you for your continuing trust in our work. There is still a lot of work ahead of us, but together we can raise awareness around the numerous benefits of plant-based living. Here’s to many more delicious achievements in 2022!
