We support and connect global partners and start-ups to advance plant-based and cultivated food innovation; we raise public awareness around the multiple benefits of these foods.
First South East Asia Innovation Challenge launched by ProVeg Asia
ProVeg Asia recently launched the ProVeg Food Innovation Challenge across Southeast Asia, with the support of World Animal Protection and donors like you. The challenge aims to reduce the consumption of animal-based products in order to support global health, environmental sustainability, food security, and animal welfare. The ProVeg Food Innovation Challenge is now open to students from universities in Southeast Asia who are passionate about promoting a sustainable lifestyle, creating delicious healthy food, and reducing animal consumption. More than 20 universities from across nine countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, and the Philippines) have been invited to participate in the challenge. Teams of participating students will compete to win cash prizes totaling 5,000 USD. The challenge is supported by leading food-industry players such as Beyond Meat, CPF, HaoFood, Nestlé, Oatly, and Unilever.
Russia’s first animal-free food-tech accelerator made possible by ProVeg Incubator and AAFPP
ProVeg Incubator has partnered with the newly-formed Association of Alternative Food Producers (AAFPP)*, which is preparing to launch Russia’s first plant-based startup incubator. Together, the organisations will support and accelerate food and food-tech companies that are developing alternatives to animal-based products. This includes, for example, startups developing plant-based food or ingredients, cultured meat and seafood, and related tech products such as 3D bioprinting. According to Albrecht Wolfmeyer, Head of the ProVeg Incubator, “The potential impact of this project is enormous, given that the target region has a population of around 240 million people. We will bring our experience and know-how to the table, having already built a pioneering food incubator, and look forward to mentoring startup founders and connecting them to partners from Germany and beyond.” *The AAFPP is a non-profit set up in Russia by Julia Marsel and Tim Ponomarev, two of the founders of the startup Greenwise, an alumnus of the ProVeg Incubator.
