    green or ripe plantains
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt Adjust to taste

  1. Use a knife to cut off the ends of the plantains carefully, then make a lengthwise slit along the ridges of the plantains.Remove the peel and discard.

  2. Using a sharp knife or a slicer, slice the plantains into thin, uniform rounds or strips. You can adjust the thickness to your preference, but thinner slices will cook faster and be crispier.

  3. Heat enough vegetable oil to submerge the plantain slices in a deep frying pan or a pot. Heat the oil to around 350-375°F (175-190°C).

  4. Add a batch of plantain slices to the hot oil carefully, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy, usually about 2-3 minutes per side for green plantains and 1-2 minutes for ripe plantains.

  5. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.

  6. Sprinkle them with salt to taste while the plantain chips are still hot. Add other seasonings like chilli powder, garlic powder, or paprika for extra flavour.

  7. Continue frying the remaining plantain slices in batches until they are all crispy and golden brown.

  8. Allow the plantain chips to cool completely before serving. Enjoy your homemade plantain chips as a delicious snack!

Experiment with different seasonings to customize the flavour. Caution is advised when working with hot oil. Enjoy the irresistible crunch of freshly made plantain chips!
