* Based on “The Impact of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) and Their Risk Factors on Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)” report published by the Malaysian Ministry of Health & WHO (2020) which estimates NCD-related productivity losses due to absenteeism, presenteeism and early retirement due to premature deaths in Malaysia has a high estimate of RM 12.88 billion. The NCD analysis only included cardiovascular diseases (CVD), diabetes and cancers. **Based on typical Malaysian food consumption pattern statistics from the Malaysian Food Barometer study (2014) and statistics of “Food consumption statistics among eaters only” from the Malaysian Adult Nutrition Study (MANS, 2014).
