Announcing World Plant Milk Day 2019
July 25, 2019
In 2017, ProVeg and Plant Based News declared 22 August World Plant Milk Day! This international event raises awareness of plant milks’ widespread availability, versatility, and delicious taste while highlighting the fact that the consumption and production of plant-based milk is better for our health, the environment, and animals. Originally conceived by Robbie Lockie, vegan advocate, campaigner and co-founder of Plant Based News, the day draws attention to the incredible benefits of plant milk.
Year on year, more and more people around the world are choosing to drink plant-based milk for a number of reasons, including the environment, health, animal welfare, and for its delicious taste. World Plant Milk Day, encourages others to try plant milk and raises awareness about why plant milk is the most compassionate choice.
Choosing plant milk is one of the most significant steps an individual can take to reduce their impact on the planet. Dairy herds are responsible for dangerous greenhouse gas emissions which exceed their plant-based counterparts. In addition, producing milk is resource-heavy, requiring large amounts of land and water.
When it comes to human health, research shows that a shift to a wholefood, plant-based diet is good for you and can help prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer.
The production of dairy also causes immeasurable stress to cows, animals who are intelligent and empathetic. By choosing plant milk, you are reducing the demand for dairy and thus reducing the suffering of these sentient animals.
“We believe that in order to move towards a plant-based world, we first need to improve accessibility to plant-based food, thus making it easier for consumers to transition to a plant-based diet,” says Sean Mackenney, ProVeg Campaign Manager. “This is the reason why ProVeg seeks to influence change behind the scenes, working with food producers, retailers, and restaurants in order to develop and promote plant-based alternatives to dairy.”
So why not join the millions of people around the world who are choosing the kinder, more sustainable, and delicious option of plant milk?
