July 7, 2018
Califia Farms, a company that commercialises plant-based milks, has received 50 million dollars from its investors and shareholders, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Jared Leto.
The environmental impact of the dairy industry has motivated Califia to find plant-based solutions for our food. The company wants to become a leader in the plant-based milk sector, with its motto of sustainability, health and wellness, and plant-based innovation.
Recently, the company reported that it had secured more than 50 million dollars in funding from its new and existing investors. The new shareholders are celebrities who support the values of a plant-based lifestyle. Among the list are Leonardo DiCaprio, Jared Leto, Karlie Kloss, Shaun White, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley.
With this funding, Califia will expand its manufacturing capacity and the marketing of its plant-based beverages, and promote their new line of dairy-free yoghurt drinks.

It’s not the first time that DiCaprio has promoted initiatives like this one. In 2014 he was the executive producer of the documentary Cowspiracy., and just last year he invested in the company Beyond Meat to lead the production of The Beyond Burger. And now, more aware of the environmental impact of the livestock industry, he is promoting the consumption of plant-based milks.
As for Jared Leto, he will be on a musical tour this summer with 30 Seconds to Mars. And before each concert, the attendees will see a promotional video of 90 seconds of plant-based milks.
It is hugely positive to know that plant-based options are being driven by influential people. This makes it easier than ever for more and more people to discover that alternatives based on plants are, as well as being delicious, good for the environment and for animals.
How about you: do you enjoy plant-based milks?
