22 August is recognised as World Plant Milk Day and at ProVeg South Africa, we dedicated the whole month to celebrating the animal-free dairy products that are available in the country. Read on to see the quick highlights of our super busy month!
August is always such an exciting month at ProVeg South Africa team because #worldplantmilkday! This year we worked with local and international brands, retailers and coffee shops to showcase the great variety of plant milk available in South Africa.
Conversations around the importance of plant based alternatives is growing exponentially in South Africa. Media coverage of our 2021 World Plant Milk Day campaign reflects a genuine interest from consumers to get more information about the options available to them.Â
Over the month of August, the campaign was featured in at least 23 media outlets including 2 live television interviews , 6 radio stations, 16 online news websites and 2 print media features in the Weekend Argus and the Food Lover’s Market newspaper.Â
Cape Town TV hosts a blind taste test
In partnership with Cape Town TV, we hosted a plant based milk blind tasting on Ek_se Live, the biggest youth show in the Southern Hemisphere. Live on air, Ek_se Live’s presenters got to taste the entire Checkers’ Simple Truth range to a weekly viewership of over 800 000. The show airs on Mondays, 4-5pm on DsTV Channel 263 but you can catch a recap on their YouTube channel.
Newzroom Afrika streams across the country
Newzroom Afrika, South African 24-hour digital satellite television news channel broadcasting across Africa & DStv, covered World Plant Milk Day when they invited our director Donovan Will to educate their 2 727 823 8am news viewers about the availability of plant milk in South Africa.
Environmental benefits shine in the Weekend ArgusÂ
World Plant Milk Day is about more than just finding and highlighting good tasting alternatives for animal milks, it also showcases the need to make more environmentally conscious decisions when choosing food choices. Weekend Argus, popular daily newspaper, featured World Plant Milk Day and highlighted the many ways plant based milk alternatives are beneficial to the environment. As of 2012, the Argus had a daily readership of 294 000, according to the South African Advertising research Foundation’s All Media Product Survey Newspaper.
