Our Campaigns

ProVeg South Africa is the local chapter of an international food awareness organisation with the mission of reducing global consumption of animals by 50% by 2040.

Diet Change Not Climate Change

ProVeg International has permanent observer status at UNFCCC, is accredited for UNEA and received the United Nations Momentum for Change Award.

Diet Change not Climate Change (DCNCC) is a global campaign that urges policymakers to reduce animal agriculture and adopt plant-based food options as a climate change mitigation strategy.

Farming and the eating of animals is a leading contributor to the global climate crisis, responsible for about 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Switching to a plant-based diet could reduce your food-related emissions by up to 50%.

Ahead of COP26, ProVeg South Africa launched a crowdfunding campaign to empower the largest initiative to get plant-based food on the climate agenda that the country has ever seen. With the generous help from everybody who donated, a total of 78 digital billboards were secured across 4 provinces,

Veganuary South Africa

ProVeg South Africa is the local partner for Veganuary, a pledge to try vegan for the month of January. With over a million individuals across the world kicking off the year with healthy and sustainable food choices, January is the best time for the vegan community to come together and taste new plant-based food options!

During our Veganuary 2022 campaign, ProVeg South Africa hosted 9 dinner parties with across 2 provinces, engaged with 25 companies, 98 new vegan menu items, 44 new vegan products and 2 brand new vegan restaurants.

Braai Day

Heritage Day, 24 September, is often celebrated around a braai with family and friends – so much so that it is now branded as Braai Day. Every year, ProVeg South Africa hosts an epic plant-based braai on Heritage Day to showcase protein alternatives prepared on a braai.

Digital Campaigns

As a food awareness organisation, we have launched multiple digital campaigns to raise awareness of plant-based food options available in South Africa. On our social media, we share Green Monday recipes weekly to give you access to the yummiest plant-based meals from local and international chefs.

To celebrate World Plant Milk Day 2020, we tasted all of the plant milks available in the country and hosted a blind coffee tasting to discover the best barista blend options. We have hosted similar activities for World Pizza Day, Meatless May, World Chocolate Day and more.

Collaborative Campaigns

We work alongside organizations to empower the reach of our campaigns. If you have ideas on how to increase awareness and adoption of plant-based food in our country, please reach out to our team.
