WoW! #PlantBasedFood winners at Vegan Goods Market
April 7, 2021
During the month of February, ProVeg SA worked closely with WesternCape on Wellness (WoW!) to execute a #PlantBasedFood campaign within their community of wellness champions. We delivered bite-sized pieces of education about a plant-based diet and asked them to submit authentic, low-budget vegan recipes. We chose 4 recipe winners and invited them to the first Vegan Goods Market of the year to hand over their prizes.
WesternCape on Wellness (WoW!) drives #PlantBasedFood awareness
WesternCape on Wellness dedicated the month of February to #PlantBasedFood. We reached out to their community of wellness champions and encouraged them to submit an authentic, low-budget vegan recipe in order to stand a chance in winning one of four awesome prizes. Each prize was jam-packed with sponsored vegan goodies from Wellness Warehouse, YOUFIRST, PhytoPro and The Fry Family Food Co.
WoW! Champions share their easy plant-based recipes
Once the campaign had run to an end, ProVeg SA sifted through the recipe submissions to choose our favourite options. The winners had created the following delicious everyday recipes; Green Salad, Potato and Cauliflower Curry, Stir Fry Avocado Pasta and Lentil & Chickpea Burger Patty.
We invited each of the winners to meet us for a plant-based lunch at the Vegan Goods Market. We love attending this market to find incredible local food options (and more!). It was the first market of the year and at a new great venue, The Range, Tokai.
A day well spent at the Vegan Goods Market
ProVeg SA, along with 3 of the winners, enjoyed smoothies, tempeh snacks, “lamb” biryani, “rib” burgers, beyond burgers and more mind-bending plant-based foods. It was inspiring to learn more about the successful wellness initiative hosted by each of the champions, who were all trained by WesternCape on Wellness to create impact within their respective communities.
Levona Johnson arrived with her daughter, who loves meat but equally loves a beyond burger, had won 6 awards from Western Cape on Wellness the previous day during their award ceremony. She had done a great job in promoting wellness by broadcasting simple yet effective ways to move your body via mobile apps during the pandemic.
Buyiswa Nini leads a wellness club in Khayelitsha. The group runs from 8km every week, and includes men, women and children.Â
Hope for widespread plant-based education
The day at the Vegan Goods Market was awesome for everybody involved. We were grateful that some of the winners could join us, and that we were able to use our sponsored products to support their plant-based journey. Learning more about initiatives at WesternCape on Wellness is very inspiring and we look forward to what the future holds for our partnership.
