ProVeg accredited to the UN Economic and Social Council

We are very happy to announce that ProVeg has gained accreditation to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, also called ECOSOC. ECOSOC is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, responsible for coordinating the organisation’s economic and social mandates. The accreditation provides a consultative status that gives ProVeg access not only to ECOSOC, but also to subsidiary bodies.

“ProVeg being accredited to ECOSOC shows that our work is being increasingly recognised on an international level. In addition to the status that ProVeg has already achieved within the UN, this accreditation will be a vitally useful tool  in our international policy work.”

Raphael Podselver, Head of UN Advocacy at ProVeg International

Why is ECOSOC so important

As an economic and social organ of the United Nations, ECOSOC has essential responsibilities. The agency plays a vital role in the development of standards of living, full employment, and social progress around the world. ECOSOC is also a key player when it comes to solutions for social, economic, and health problems, as well as international cooperation in terms of culture and education and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. There are currently more than 4,000 NGOs with consultative status, making civil society a central pillar of the agency.

ProVeg increases impact by gaining permanent observer status at UNFCCC

Following an 18-month application process, we are happy to announce that ProVeg have become an official observer organisation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, granting us access to key events at all future UN Climate Change Conferences.

An opportunity for ProVeg

Being accredited to ECOSOC will further enhance ProVeg’s ability to engage with UN staff and diplomats, giving us access to more negotiation spaces and conferences at the annual High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). As such, ProVeg will be able to take its global impact to a higher structural and international level. In addition, this will help us to connect with other like-minded organisations and expand our international network so that we can continue to amplify our message and bring about change.

ProVeg accredited to the UN Environment Assembly

We are very happy to announce that ProVeg has gained accreditation at the UN Environment Assembly, which takes place every two years and whose next edition will be in Nairobi in January 2021.
