Belgian food awareness NGO, EVA, to become ProVeg Belgium

Belgian non-profit EVA, which has been promoting the benefits of plant-based diets for 22 years, is changing its name this month to become part of the global food awareness organisation, ProVeg International.

EVA, which will be renamed ProVeg Belgium, has been leading on campaigns in Belgium such as “Thursday is Veggie Day” and the Veggie Challenge, which encourage people to try out plant-based diets.

It will be the ninth ProVeg country in the ProVeg fold, joining offices already established in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Czechia, Spain, the United Kingdom, South Africa and the United States.

“We are delighted to welcome EVA as ProVeg Belgium. With the additional support of the international team, the work of the team in Belgium will now have even more impact,” says Jasmijn de Boo, Vice President ProVeg International.

A match made in heaven

EVA’s vision has always been very similar to ProVeg’s: A world where everyone chooses delicious and healthy food that is good for all humans, animals, and our planet.

So joining ProVeg International as ProVeg Belgium was a “no-brainer”. From this month, they will support ProVeg’s mission of reducing the global consumption of animals by 50% by 2040 with their work and their campaigns that fit in perfectly.

Since ProVeg International was founded in 2017, there have always been close contacts between the two organisations. As EVA has already collaborated with ProVeg in several campaigns, becoming ProVeg became a logical next step.

“As ProVeg Belgium we can exchange experience and expertise with colleagues from all over the world. Because the topic we work on, plant-based nutrition, is something that transcends national borders. With this knowledge, we can also stand stronger locally,” says Fien Louwagie, spokesperson of ProVeg Belgium.
