COP27 Press conference: The Environmental Impact of Animal Farming

Members of the media are invited to a press conference at COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh on Tuesday, November 15th from 1pm to 1.30pm (UTC +2) in the Luxor Press Conference Room (No 22 COP27 venue map) on the environmental impact of animal farming.

Hosted by ProVeg International, the conference will feature Klaus Mitchell, founder of Plant Based News who will talk about the global share of greenhouse gas emissions created by livestock farming as well as the devastating effect of animal farming on the Amazon rainforest.

“According to a major report published in Science journal in 2020, even if fossil fuel emissions were eliminated immediately, emissions from our food system alone would make it impossible to limit global warming to the 1.5 degree threshold, and difficult even to limit to 2 degrees,” Mitchell said. “So I’m delighted to be speaking at COP27 as it is high time we put the spotlight on this issue if we want any meaningful chance of mitigating the effects of climate change.”
